    I just replayed fallout 2.
    I noticed a lot of things related to scientology I never noticed the first time I played it (because I couldn't care less about cults in those days)

    One thing I thought worth mentioning is The Shi and their relation to Hubology.
    The shi, in their laboratories, have something called "The Xeno Program".
    The program is about running some experiments on some secret "object" they found under a mountain.
    Unfortunately they cannot complete the program as the Hubologists have stolen or destroyed the object.

    I just saw the pics and I'd like to lol at the fact someone ripped the EFG mask I made for another game and put it in the Fallout 3 mod.

    Good job at staying anonymous there, you should be the person they give credits to in the readme.

    Also.
    Why, why in heavens name did you make a simple object like a mask with 2470 polygon?
    And why, if the texture is such a simple colour affair, why the hell did it need to be 2048x2048? way way to large.

    I left a WIP version of that on a public server, which seems to be this version. I always work from a 2048 size and shrink it down when needed. Also, the 2k poly version is a reduced version of the high poly model I scuplted in Zbrush and brought into 3DS Max.

    Is mask in a format that can be used by Lightwave 3D?

    The mask is available as download for fallout and as such comes in nif format.
    you can convert that to obj with Nifskope, Lightwave can import obj.

    The project is sort of ongoing still but this wonderful other mod completely sidetracked me, I now want to make the mod a mod for that other mod.
    However I now planned out this bizarre and long 6 stage townbuilding adventure where you raid hubology camps, setup settlements for released hubologists, etc etc etc.
    It's kinda a whole lot of work and the damn GECK is full of bugs (can't generate LODs, can't create adoors that companions can navigate through, can only raise or flatten terrain, not lower, smooth noise etc, ) and players would need to specifically use version 1.6 wich would exclude ALL steam users as they have no choice about what version they use.

    But hey, at least I got a silent guy in a black suit, fedora, red tie and guy fawkes mask covering my ass when I jump into a group of supermutants.

    And how exactly are us modmakers "game professionals"?
    Last I checked we are a bunch of hobbyists, some with indie dev aspirations.
    But yeah, Lightwave isn't all that. Last thing I'd use for character models.
    Big fan of Silo3d myself when it comes to modeling characters.

    If you want to make an mod for unreal then yeah you are right.
    but unreal has no official lore that spoofes scientology, Fallout does :)
    And it's still not THE way to go for making a game, it is highly dependant on what kind of game you want to make and if you can afford the retarded licensing fee.

    The licensing deal for using UDK is completely different from Epic's licensing fee for the source code.

    Well if the professionals use Max/Maya, and it's readily available for anyone to use, there's no advantage in working with a second tier 3d program like Lightwave or this Silo3d.

    The top 3d programs are: Max, Maya, and Zbrush.

    You can also through Blender and Mudbox in there as well.

    Ya, it made me and my mod buddies jizz all over ourselves. Of course, the big hurdle is their UI editor which is a beast to overcome.

    if you aspire to be in the industry then you are totallyright, it would be folly to learn programs not standard in the industry.

    If you don't fall into that category there is no reason why shouldn't just go for the programs that work best for you.
    For the hobby dev and even for garage devs those programs often are second or even third tier programs.
    For me it guives a big advantage as I work much faster with a batch of small programs then with either max or maya.
    Programs used can also depend on the engine you are working with (as it dictates your art pipeline).

    For example, right now I am playing around with a fun little hobby engine that uses b3d as it's 3d format eventhough it was written in C++.
    From max the pipeline to animated b3d is a fine slice of hell involving the Onigirl pipeline (not a clue how it's done from maya).

    Lets say I am creating a character for this thing.
    I would prefer silo3d over max here because its workflow is better suited to lowpoly modeling than max allowing me to work a bit faster.
    Unfortunatly Silo bites at UV mapping. Max's peltmapping would be great here in theory but creating an acceptable UV map with max for a character takes very long (probably my own fault).
    Instead I move the model to a third tier program, Roadkill.
    Roadkill is a specialised UV mapper thats using techniques similair to peltmapping, I find it gives me a greater degree of control.
    From there I move the model to zbrush for texturing and from zbush it goes to fragmotion for animation and the final export to b3d.
    I prefer fragmotion to other programs because I've been using it since quake2 and am simply used to it.

    Very true. Roadkill btw is badass. But I recently started using Unfold3d. Same basic program but its better at adjusting UVs to the size of the selected polys.

    Holy Shit! I've been playing this nonfuckingstop since I got the GOTY edition for ecksbawcks.

    Unfortunately I don't have a PC powerful enough to play it :( . HOWEVER, if the GECK allows it.....I'd be more than happy to help with voicing characters, or, since I've been to most of the major cells on the east coast...I can help you with the backstories of the "anon" characters. I can think of some real, REAL fun things you could do with that.

    Just the infighting and drama carried over from GENERATIONS is making me jizz in my pants!

    OR.....

    You could have some pre-war anons be alive because of the fact that they're ghouls!

    I likle the idea of a group of goul anons. Whilst ghouls are a minority, they could be a vigilante/activist inspiration for the others. Fighting against injustice in the harsh wasteland. Trading their identity for the pursuit of justice :)

    The only thing I can say about this being bad is that......there's a huge difference between us as a group and the parallel universe in which the game takes place.

    erm yeah, the idea kinda was to have both anon and scientology in dc be remnants of of their respective lore correct counterparts.
    However hubology was created after the great war and as such that would not make sense.
    On the other hand, Fallout 3 is allready a major butchering of fallout canon so we could probably get away with it.

    It's currently part of a mod that I am not willing to share here as it namefags me.
    When I have time (read: if i can be arsed) I'll rebuild that into a standalone anonymous companion mod or a simple armor mod so you can equip any companion (or yourself) with it.
