    Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

okay, here is the first draft for the Spanish codes of conduct video. I'm a bit tired, and it probably needs some work. It's pretty latin American centric, too, I think, so maybe I need to fix that. Anyway, experts, feel free to rip me a new one:

    Regla # 8: No violencia.
Regla # 9: No armas. La protesta es un evento pacífico. No necesitara sus armas.
Regla #10: No alcohol o pre-alcohol.
Regla # 11: No graffiti, destrucción o vandalismo.
Regla # 19: Use zapatos buenos.
Regla # 20: Afiches, muestras y frases: tengalos listos.

    No perdonamos,.
    No olvidamos.

French Call to Action Video. I don't know how useful that'll be, since it's pre-02/10 but I figured it might be good to have the complete set.

Input and corrections are welcome, as usual. Note that I've already put it on the wiki, so you can also head here for corrections:

I think the Ides of March video still remains to be translated into German, but it's also very important to us that native speakers look over the existing translations to make sure they're okay.

  9. Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

Just a very rough draft of a german translation of the action to call video:

    Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

first draft for german Code of Conduct (needs evaluation in style and content by someone else and probably corrections as well), if it doesnt already exist somewhere (edit: there is already one version, put up a few minutes ago, will have a look at it and post about it):

    Verhaltenskodex

    Regel #8: Keine Gewalt.

Regel #9: Keine Waffen. Die Demonstration ist ein friedliches Ereignis. Eure
Waffen.

    genommen werdet.

Regel #17: Bedeckt Eure Gesichter.

Regel #19: Tragt gute Schuhe.

    Anonymous, Eurem glorreichen Beispiel nachzufolgen.

ganzen Demonstration vom guten Benehmen aller Beteiligter abhängt. Ignoriert

    Erwartet uns.

Some remarks to this (not as detailed as the last time):

translation for "win"? Right now there is none, because of any "inside-readers". Im not sure, as this isnt eactly my cup of tea.

you was translated as "Ihr", not as "Du" or "Sie", meaning informal adress of several people.

I guess #9 is Yoda-talk? At least I tried to translate it that way.

"Handler" is handler, might be a practical problem if being read by a voice, because then noone will now its the english word. So, before transforming
this to a video maybe replace it by "Händler", which is incorrect, but maybe the closest approximation to being read in the right manner.

Im not really happy with the overall style, but it could be worse.

If #4 should be as practical as possible it could be replaced with "Meldet Eure Demonstration an." ("Demo" instead of "Demonstration" is possible as well), because thats what this means for germany (how about austria and switzerland?) as well, but #4 conveys somehow the international spirit of Anonymous stretching throughout several jurisdictions ("Jurisdiktionen"?).

"Anonymous" was used as singular and plural form (not "Anonymusse" or "Anonymi" (or even "Anonymiese und Anonymiezen"?) or something else along these gruesome lines).

"Rechnet mit uns" (as in the draft version of Call to Action on page 7) sounds ok with me, instead of "erwartet uns", but Im still not sure what of those and if there might be even something better than both.

    Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

Remarks concerning current version of Code of Conduct in german (sry for wall of text):

@Yezariael I prefer it over my own version and appreciate the work that went into
it. What a load of work!

I would prefer the second version as it is "the goal" in the original not "our
goal" and "haltet es auf einem Minimum" Im not sure if that can be said.

    Weise behandelt werdet."

I prefer the second version as it states in the original: "Do not request
badge numbers unless you are being treated in a very abusive manner",
not only in an unjust manner. I understand this rule such that unfairness and not being
treated right should be tolerated to a pretty large extent. Besides, Im not
sure if there are "Polizeimarken" in germany, thats why I used
"Polizeiausweise". Again, Im not sure about that.

    3)"Die meißten Städte/Länder"

    "meisten" instead of "meißten"

    demonstriert."

I prefer the second version as it states in the original "across the street"
and not "at the other street".

    5) "Regel #10: Kein Alkohol oder vorglühen."

"Regel #10: Kein Alkohol oder Vor-Saufen."

I prefer the second version as it may not be optimal but I havent heard about
"Vorglühen" (which might well exist, I just never heard that word)

    6) " Zuwiederhandlung"

    "Zuwiderhandlung"

I prefer the second version as it is correct spelling.

    7) "Regel #09: Keine Waffen. Die Demonstration ist ein friedliches Event. Eure Waffen werdet ihr nicht brauchen."

"Regel #9: Keine Waffen. Die Demonstration ist ein friedliches Ereignis. Eure
Waffen. Nicht brauchen werdet Ihr sie."

I prefer the second version as Yoda-talk it has (if that is even there in the original ;) , as this should be "not need them you will", or am I wrong- well if the original hasnt then your text is better ("Event" or "Ereignis" doesnt really matter, I would prefer the latter, but thats a question of personal preference).

8 ) "machen euch zum Ziel von Gesetzlichen Konsequenzen."

"machen euch zum Ziel von gesetzlichen Konsequenzen."

prefer the second version as its correct with a small g (doesnt matter at all anyway if it to be is read by a computer voice...).

    9) "Regel #19: Zieht gute Schue an. Das Befolgen dieser Regeln versichert
euren Komfort wärend der Demonstration. Denkt daran das Demonstrationen sehr
    lang seien können."

"Regel #19: Tragt gute Schuhe. Das Befolgen dieser Regeln wird sicherstellen,
dass Ihr Euch bei der Demo wohlfühlt. Denkt daran, dass Demonstrationen können
    häufig recht lang dauern."

I prefer the second version, because "Schuhe" is correct spelling, Im not sure
    if "versichert
euren Komfort wärend der Demonstration." is correct (im not sure about this
use of "versichern", I thought it would only apply to persons talking to other
persons and not to facts or measures that ensure something or make it more
probable) and "recht lang" is closer to the original "quite lengthy."
than "sehr lang", which would be "very lengthy"; on the other hand "sehr lang"
might be the better "cultural translation" as "quite" can be used as
    a substitute for "very" often.

    10) "Regel #20: Schilder, Flyers und Sprüche. Haltet eure bereit.

    Protests passen."

I prefer the second version. Reasons for this: "Flier" is imho the correct
pluralform and not "Flyers". "Haltet Eure bereit" is indeed an exact
translation of "keep yours ready", but somehow I dont think it can be
said. "sachdienlich"- Im not sure about that: Something can be "sachdienlich",
but not fitting to the overall theme of the protest, which I think is one of the main
points of rule #20. Besides, in the original it says: "Make sure that signs are
large enough to read. Also ensure that the text on your signs and your phrases
are pertinent to the target of the protest." so we have this combination "make
sure"/"ensure" which goes into a pretty similar direction both. Thats why I
    prefer "Stellt sicher"/" ist
sicherzustellen" even though that last word is very formal (but not as formal
as "sachdienlich", which I think should be avoided.

    11) "ist der Erfolg eurer Aktionen garantiert."

"ist der Erfolg eurer Aktionen praktisch garantiert"

I prefer the second version, because of "virtually".

    12)

    "Wir vergessen nicht.
    Wir vergeben nicht."

    "Wir vergeben nicht.
    Wir vergessen nicht."

I prefer the second version, because of th order of sentences in the original.

Again, thanks a lot(!!!) for this mammoth work of translating all of those videos!

    Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

Here are two Dutch translations I wrote. Feel free to correct/improve as you see fit (if you're a Dutchfag or proficient in the language :D )

    -------------------------

    Operation: Reconnect

    We are legion.

    We do not forgive.

    We do not forget.

    Expect us."

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Message to Scientology Video

    Hallo, Scientology.

    Kennis is gratis.

    Wij zijn Anonymous.

    Wij zijn een legioen.

    Wij vergeven nooit.

Guys, as far as Taiwanese and Chinese go, is there any difference in the languages?

edit: basically what I'm asking is should there be different categories for things that are translated into Taiwanese vs. Mandarin?

  18. Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

I was going to reply, but as I'm not a specialist in Chinese, I thought it best to refrain.

But, as far as I understand, in terms of the East Asian Languages, Mandarin and Cantonese are written the same. Spoken language is different. Taiwanese is a completely different beast (at least according to the the Taiwanese people I've known).

As well, written Chinese for the mainland has been pretty much standardized. But spoken language differs between states -- ie, Hunan speaks a different language than do the people in Beijing. Not so different to be unintelligible, but different. Kind of like British English and American English.

In addition, Okinawa speaks Japanese, but it is a different Japanese from Mainland Japanese. Enough so that mainland Japanese people don't understand Okinawan Japanese.

    Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

Thanks for the read-over...I've changed the text according to your suggestions.I've translated all texts in one session, hence the spelling misstakes^^
Only two thing I left out are "

I would prefer the second version as it is "the goal" in the original not "our
goal" and "haltet es auf einem Minimum" Im not sure if that can be said.<<<< I change it into the goal, however kept "haltet es auf einem Minimum." because it's correct :p

    second:
    >>>>5) "Regel #10: Kein Alkohol oder vorglühen."

"Regel #10: Kein Alkohol oder Vor-Saufen."

I prefer the second version as it may not be optimal but I havent heard about
"Vorglühen" (which might well exist, I just never heard that word)<<<< I've kept vorglühen in () because, especially for young people it is not only a, but the term^^

    Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

These are the rules in Norwegian - quite old, I don't know if there have been updates of the rules:

    Regel #1: Forhold deg rolig

Regel #13: Anonymous is Legion.

Regel #19: Bruk gode sko.

  21. Discussions in Wiki and Chinese languages

If you work on the translations in the Wiki, you can edit, discuss and comment on the individual languages. It's easier for people to find specific info later, IMHO.

FYI, there's only one written Chinese language. But you can say there are two "fonts" - traditional and simplified. Simplified Chinese for China (PRC), and Traditional Chinese for the rest of the world, such as Taiwan and Hong Kong. If you have to pick only one "font" to use, no one will be offended by the simplified version. Numbers rules. Most software recognize both fonts, but will definitely recognize the simplified, unless it's a company in Taiwan who doesn't export.

Mandarin is the spoken language which directly corresponds to written Chinese, like English, you speak what you write. Taiwanese speaks Mandarin, but with a slightly different accent, I would guess much less variation than the accents within London. Many Taiwanese relocated from China not so long ago during the communist revolution after WWII.

There are many dialects in China, often with little resemblance to written Chinese and Mandarin. You can ignore all these. Cantonese speakers in south China and south east Asia outnumbered the English speakers in England according to Wikipedia. But the only place with Cantonese as one of the official spoken languages is Hong Kong with only about 7 million people. Now it's part of China, so English and Mandarin will also work unless you want to impress everybody there. Cantonese is rather close to the written language. If you turn a Mandarin speech into Cantonese word for word, it will work but sound like Shakespearean English as compared to everyday English.

    Re: Call To Arms: Translators.

Rule #0: Rules #1 and #2 of the internet still apply. Your memes are not, at this juncture, something that the real world can appreciate. Although meme speak between fellow Anonymous is acceptable, focus on the target and keep it to a minimum.
    Rule #1: Stay cool.
Rule #2: Stay cool, especially when harassed. You are an ambassador of Anonymous. Although individuals trying to disrupt your demonstration will get on your nerves, you must not lose your temper. Doing so will harm the protest and tarnish the reputation of Anonymous.
Rule #3: Comply with the orders of law enforcement officers above all else. Doing otherwise is harmful to the demonstration as a whole and may compromise your performance as a human being. Do not request badge numbers unless you are being treated in a very abusive manner, as doing so will anger officers.
Rule #4: Notify city officials. Most jurisdictions either have rules about public protests, or would prefer to be notified that they are taking place. Know the rules for your jurisdiction and abide by them.
Rule #5: Always be across the street from the object being protested.
Rule #6: In the absence of a road, find another natural barrier between yourself and the target of protest. Doing so will make it more difficult for individuals hostile to your cause to come and harass you.
Rule #7: Stay on public property. You may be charged for trespassing if you do not.
    Rule #8: No violence.
Rule #9: No weapons. The demonstration is a peaceful event. Your weapons. You will not need them.
Rule #10: No alcohol or pre-drinking. Violating this rule may easily precipitate a violation of rules 1 and 2.
Rule #11: No graffiti, destruction, or vandalism.
Rule #12: If you want to do something stupid, pick another day. These should be self explanatory. Violation of these rules during a demonstration will tarnish the reputation of Anonymous, harm the demonstration itself and leave you vulnerable to attention from law enforcement.
Rule #13: Anonymous is legion. Never be alone. Isolation during a protest marks you as a target for handlers who wish to provoke an angry reaction from you and other hostiles. In keeping with this principle...
Rule #14: Organize in squads of 10 to 15 people.
Rule #15: One or two megaphones per squad. A megaphone is helpful for maintaining the overall cohesion of a demonstration and spreading your message. However, too many will confuse the public and render you hearing impaired.
Rule #16: Know the dress code. Forming a loose yet reasonable dress code for protest members will help to maintain cohesion and get the public to take you seriously.
Rule #17: Cover your face. This will prevent your identification from videos taken by hostiles, other protesters or security. Use scarves, hats and sunglasses. Masks are not necessary, and donning them in the context of a public demonstration is forbidden in some jurisdictions.
Rule #18: Bring water. A dehydrated, thirsty Anonymous is not a useful Anonymous.
Rule #19: Wear good shoes. Following these rules will assure your comfort during the demonstration. Keep in mind that demonstrations may often be quite lengthy.
Rule #20: Signs, fliers, and phrases. Have yours ready. Make sure that signs are large enough to read. Also ensure that the text on your signs and your phrases are pertinent to the target of the protest.
Rule #21: Prepare legible, uncomplicated and accurate flyers to hand out to those who wish to know more regarding the motivations behind your actions.
Rule #22: Document the demonstration. Videos and pictures of the event may be used to corroborate your side of the story if law enforcement get involved. Furthermore, posting images and videos of your heroic actions all over the internet is bound to generate win, exhorting other Anonymous to follow your glorious example.
If you follow these simple rules, the success of your action is virtually assured. However, keep in mind that the success of the demonstration as a whole hinges on the good behavior of all those who participate. Ignore these rules at your own peril. Follow them, and victory will be yours.
    We are Anonymous.
    We do not forgive.
    We do not forget.
    Expect us.

Regra #20: Cartazes, flyers e frases.

Regra #22: Documente a demonstração.

Ignore essas regras e falhe. Siga essas regras e a vitória será sua.

    Nós somos Anônimos.

    Nós não perdoamos.

    Nós não esquecemos.

    Aguardem-nos.

Rules 3, 4 and the second 22 stumped me. HALP!! Also, grammar corrections and nitpicks, PLEASE! Swedish is not my native tongue and I haven't used in about eight months...

(note: how the hell do you translate meme?!)
I samman hang....
