Arizona Extremist Jon Ritzheimer Mocked In #DaddySworeAnOath Hashtag | Phoenix New Times

It was only a matter of time until Jon Ritzheimer — the ex-Marine, anti-Islamist Arizonan holed up in a federal building in Oregon — inspired his own hashtag.

Yesterday the world watched #VanillaISIS, #YallQaeda, and #YeeHawd take off on Twitter, and today we have a new one: #DaddySworeAnOath.

This hashtag, created by singer-songwriter John Darnielle of the Indie-folk and often-humorous band, The Mountain Goats, specifically mocks a recent video posted by Ritzheimer.

Why Ammon Bundy’s Oregon standoff is doomed to fail

If you want to understand why the armed men who seized the empty headquarters of Oregon’s remote Malheur National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday are doomed to fail — despite vowing to hunker down for “as long as it takes” to defeat the “tyranny” of Washington, D.C., and threatening “to kill or be killed” if necessary — then you have to understand a few other things first. Things like grazing fees, desert tortoises and the property clause of the United States Constitution.

In short, you have to understand the larger war for control of the American West.

On one side of the Oregon flare-up is the federal government, which owns surprisingly vast swaths of the western half of the country, ranging from 29.9 percent of Montana to 84.5 percent of Nevada, and just over half, 53.1 percent, of Oregon.

On the other side are a bunch of antigovernment types who think that Uncle Sam shouldn’t own this much land, and who, for both economic and ideological reasons, would rather the more laissez-faire states owned it instead.

“Once [the people] can use these lands as free men, then we will have accomplished what we came to accomplish,” Bundy told reporters over the weekend.

The basic battle lines here aren’t new. Westerners have always seen themselves as rugged individualists, and the current clash has its roots in a law that Congress passed during Civil War.

But what has changed in recent years is that these Westerners are now willing to use confrontational, even violent, tactics to get their point across — a decision that is almost certain to undermine the larger cause to which they profess their allegiance.

Most of the blame belongs to a single family: the Bundys.

'I Need to Get Home': Oregon Occupiers Hint at Exit Plan | NBC News

Four days into their occupation, the anti-government activists who took over a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon hinted on Tuesday that their days there might be numbered.

Ringleader Ammon Bundy insisted they "have a plan" to help ranchers in Harney County avoid the fate of Dwight Hammond and his son Steven, who are now in federal prison for setting fires on their ranch that spread to government land.

"We are implementing this plan," Bundy said. "We see a time coming very soon where the community will begin to participate more in that and begin to take that over so they can claim their own rights."

Bundy did not divulge any details of their "plan." But he said that when the community is "strong enough to defend" their rights "then we will go home."

But LaVoy Finicum, one the gunmen who seized the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, made it clear he wanted to get back to his Nevada ranch.

"I need to get home," he said. "I got cows that are scattered and lost."

Considering what happened to Barrett Brown for having a nervous breakdown on YouTube, I think these heavily armed guys should get a similar time-out. At least.

Leader of armed group occupying federal building on Oregon says FBI is planning a raid

A leader of the armed group occupying a federal building in Oregon said he’s been told the FBI has obtained five arrest warrants and planned to raid the property — an allegation that federal or local law enforcement did not confirm.

Ammon Bundy didn’t name the source of his information when he spoke late Tuesday night at a press conference outside the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge near Burns. He said he talked to an unnamed “commissioner.”

According to Bundy, the source said authorities were gathering “their equipment and their goons” at a local high school, where classes have been suspended, and “they were planning on coming in and raiding the refuge.”

Steamy #BundyEroticFanFic imagines what happens in militias after dark | Mashable

Have you ever closed your eyes and fantasized, just for a second, what it is those rugged men in Ammon Bundy's militia do when the lights turn low and the occupiers gather to stay warm by the soft glow of the fire?

No? OK, maybe a little bit? It's all right, you're not alone.

Aspiring erotic-fiction writers are imagining steamy scenes between militia members and sharing their fan fiction under the hashtag #BundyEroticFanFic.

The hashtag appears to have been created on Tuesday by Colin Meloy, frontman of the Portland-based rock band The Decemberists, days after a group of armed men took over a remote outpost in the Oregon wilderness to protest the federal government's ownership of state lands.

This is the spark that lit the flame:

"They huddled together for warmth. The cold of Ammon's Ruger 22 against Brian's naked thigh sent a thrill up his spine." #bundyeroticfanfic
    — colin meloy (@colinmeloy) January 6, 2016

Responses to his call for submissions showed fans of Meloy — and erotic fan fiction — just what was possible.

@colinmeloy Ammon ran a hand through Ryan's hair, then eased him down, whispering "I grant you unlimited grazing rights." #bundyeroticfanfic
    — Eric Heidle (@Ericheidle) January 7, 2016

Soon it began to take off, and by early Thursday morning it was a trending topic on Twitter.

    Wait! There's more!

Tearful militant discovers friend drank away donation money: ‘It’s like finding out there is no such thing as Santa’

A heartbroken militiaman announced that one of his buddies had walked off the Oregon nature preserve they had overtaken and had holed up in a local motel to drink away donation money.

Joe Oshaugnessy, an Arizona militiaman, has been actively seeking volunteers through social media to join the occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

But his friends tearfully announced that Oshaugnessy, who is known as “Capt. O,” had left the refuge Wednesday and was instead staying at a motel nearby — as some others associated with the militants have apparently been doing, according to sources.

Some of the militants have reportedly been spotted eating at area restaurants during the standoff, as well.
The militants have been allowed to come and go freely from the nature preserve in the absence of a law enforcement presence, but at least one of them, Brian “Booda” Cavalier, failed to return after a newspaper report revealed he had lied about serving in the U.S. Marines.

Oshaugnessy had apparently argued with some of the participants about the presence of women and children at the wildlife refuge, where militants apparently hoped to draw federal agents into a gun battle.

Jon Ritzheimer, the Arizona militiaman known for organizing anti-Muslim rallies and fundraising through his “Rogue Infidel” site, went to see Oshaugnessy at the motel and found him drinking there, according to Maureen Peltier, a disabled National Guard woman who claims to be the group’s official spokeswoman.

Peltier said Ritzheimer had confirmed that Oshaugnessy had kept the money he had raised through social media for himself and had spent at least some of it on a drinking binge.

Another militant, Cai Irvin, tearfully announced Oshaungnessy’s departure in a Facebook video.

“Ritzheimer did call me — he’s f*cking pissed, he’s mad, he’s upset,” Irvin said. “He told me to tell all of you that Joe Oshaugnessy is a deserter and a coward.”

Irvin said the militants felt betrayed by Oshaugnessy, who had taken part like many of them in the 2014 standoff at the Bundy ranch — where various factions within the right-wing “patriot” movement also squabbled.

“It’s like finding out there is no such thing as Santa,” Irvin said. “Come on, man.”

Irvin later removed the Facebook video from his public profile page.

Infighting Over Oregon Militia Takeover Reveals Deep Divisions Among ‘Patriots’

By David Neiwert, Crooks and Liars

Protest events organized by antigovernment movement "Patriots" have a long history of being internally contentious affairs, and this week’s standoff with federal authorities in Burns, Ore., is no exception.

The internal dissent over the invasion of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge by Ammon and Ryan Bundy and a group of out-of-state militiamen has, in fact, been very public. Indeed, the majority of “Patriot” and “constitutionalist” organizers have adamantly denounced the takeover and pleaded with the Bundy brothers to back off.

For their part, the Bundys and their militia cohort have been defiant, insisting that the cause of the Hammond family – the ranchers whose arson convictions provided the centerpiece of the original protest last Saturday that led to the takeover – is worth “taking a stand” over.

But other “Patriots” who participated in the Saturday protest disavowed the takeover, notably the leadership of the contingent of militiamen from the “III Percent of Idaho” organization who had traveled from Boise to participate.

“The 3% of Idaho, 3% of Oregon, The Oregon Constitutional Guard, and PPN organizations in no way condone nor support these actions,” announced a press release. “They do not mirror our vision, mission statement, or views in regards to upholding the Constitution, The Rule of Law, or Due Process.”

Similarly, “constitutionalist” Sheriff Richard Mack – who was present at the Saturday rally as well – issued a statement denouncing the action: “CSPOA does not support or condone the occupation by those individuals who have taken over the Federal Wildlife building just outside Burns, OR. With all our hearts we appeal to all those occupying the federal facility to immediately vacate the building and to go home to their families!”

Likewise, Stewart Rhodes, president of the Oath Keepers, the antigovernment group that was a major participant in the Bundy Ranch standoff in 2014, backed away from any involvement in the takeover.

“By doing this, they have given Obama the best New Years present he could hope for – an example of militia movement/patriot aggression, which gives up the high ground while also having the least credibility and support from the locals possible, after lying to them, and also the least support from the patriot community, who were also blind-sided by Ammon and Ryan Payne,” read a statement issued by Rhodes.

Oregon sheriff has received numerous death threats since militia takeover | The Guardian

The local sheriff policing the occupation of a wildlife refuge in Oregon said he has received numerous death threats since armed militia took over the remote government outpost over the weekend.

Harney County sheriff David Ward told local residents on Wednesday that his wife had left town for her safety after strangers followed her home one night and someone slit her car tire. He said he had received anonymous letters with numerous misspellings that included death threats.

Worse still, the sheriff said, strangers had come to town to harass his elderly parents.

“Mom and Dad, stand up,” he said at the packed meeting. He introduced his parents, saying they were both in their 70s with heart issues and pacemakers and that they were scared. “You can’t just come into our community and intimidate our elderly,” Ward said to a round of applause.

Oregon sheriff meets with armed group occupying wildlife refuge and asks them to leave | The Washington Post

“They’re welcome to leave, and I’ll escort them out of the county,” Harney County Sheriff David Ward said at a community meeting Wednesday evening.

Ward met with rancher Ammon Bundy, leader of the occupying group, Thursday afternoon to personally ask him to leave. After the meeting, Ward’s office said he planned to speak with the occupiers again Friday.

Militia Rideshare Offers Phoenix Crackpots Way to Join Ammon Bundy in Oregon | Phoenix New Times

You've got your camo, AR-15 and night-vision goggles ready, and you're eager to join your fellow patriots up at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, where former Phoenix resident Ammon Bundy and his armed crew of bohunks have taken control of a federal compound, in a bid to force the feds into turning over all federal lands to county control.

There's one problem: your four-by-four is in the garage and you need a ride to the compound's remote address, preferably with a fellow Three Percenter, a term militia-types use to compare themselves to the supposed three percent of colonists who fought the British during the Revolutionary War.

Thankfully, supporters of the Bundy group have created the "Oregon Militia Standoff - Rideshare" Facebook page, which is sort of like Lyft for right-wing loons.

The page bills itself as "a dedicated ride share hub for the contiguous 48 states so that Patriots can get to the Burns, OR standoff." It also lists a 24-hour hotline where sympathizers can get the latest on all the fun to be had at the Oregon occupation.

While many laugh at these far-right crackpots, and deservedly so, the memory of Ruby Ridge and Oklahoma City and Waco should have a sobering effect.

Ammon Bundy may seem like a paranoid joke of a man, but if our government does not put him in cuffs and charge him and his confederates for their lawlessness, a repeat of such activity is ensured.

After all, there are a lot of federal buildings in the U.S., and many more reactionary wackjobs with guns.

Fight Erupts At Bundy Standoff Between Arizona Men | Phoenix New Times

A physical fight broke out recently at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge between two groups of Arizona-based “patriots.”

The scuffle, for which one man allegedly landed in the hospital with injuries, appears to have been part of a turf war over media attention.

Occupation Turns Violent: Refuge Visitor Claims Militia Attacked Him | Carbonated.TV

Violence erupted at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge on Wednesday night after heated tensions ended in a visitor getting sent to the hospital.

The patriot-on-patriot violence is not only demonstrating the lack of strength in the occupiers' camaraderie but also exposes holes in their mission as supporters turn against each other. It shouldn’t be long before the whole protest falls apart, thankfully.
