Scientology vs Psychiatry Scientology vs Psychiatry July 18, 2009 07:14 AM PDT The use of mood-stabilising drugs to treat people with mental illness is still difficult for many in the wider community to accept. One of the most vocal opponents of psychiatry's reliance on these medications is the Church of Scientology and its offshoot – the Citizens Committee on Human Rights. This group accuses all psychiatrists and psychologists of falsely diagnosing psychiatric disorders and of leaving a legacy of pain. They’re responsible for a graphic exhibition of photography and documentary footage, which travels the world on a constant loop in an attempt to expose - what they see - as the ills of psychiatric medicine. The controversial show opens on Sydney’s George Street today, as 2SER’s Alex McDonald reports.
