Hope they dont actually manage to do soething. Its all about wether the mayor is pro-scilon or not. I hope hes not, and if what they say is true about the police being neutral, maybe the mayor will be too.

Right to freedom of assembly, freedom of expression, freedom of speech, blah blah blah.

Get in their first and tell the mayor you're peaceful protestors, the $cilons are trying to use the businesses to shut you down, they're racketeering Starbucks for not being discriminatory, etc.

Get on his good side. If they try and shut you down, we'll make a media shitstorm and do what Anonymous does best - use the body politik to annihilate repression.

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

That's bullshit, don't you guys have police to back up that they are peaceful? They can't block a protest on public property just because "we don't like them."

How many videoanons do you guys have?

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

They're saying that Anon should be trying to "Build the community not tear it down?" Haha, that's funny. I love that they're whinging about Anon using their democratic right to protest :)

I can't wait to see this denied!. The mayor won't do anything as long as you're filming everything and have proof that you're NOT disrupting business.

Maybe you should all buy something from those stores at the next protest, help "build the community", KCW (Keep [the] Community Working), or something like that... =\

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

What I find amusing is that the petition is from business owners in downtown Clearwater, specifically along the parade routes, however quite a few of the businesses are not downtown. Especially "PO Box 573 - self employed." There are also signatures from multiple people from the same business on the petition. This needs to be investigated and reported to the City of Clearwater. I was only in Clearwater for 4/12, but most of the businesses I passed when marching were empty strip malls with dusty or boarded up windows, or the Scientology compounds themselves. The few businesses that were still open and operational had large signs in the windows "ANONYMOUS NOT WELCOME" - yet are complaining about losing business?? Give me a FUCKING BREAK.

Also, about the ANON NOT WELCOME signs - I know that it is florida law that a shop owner can refuse service to anyone, but there has to be a clause to that law that limits that right, specifically stating that you cannot refuse business to someone because of their beliefs or because of their membership in a group. Just a thought, I'm no lawyer.

Kind of funny how they say that anons are hurting businesses when these businesses won't serve anons.

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

    Oh, the irony!

When Scientologists first went to Clearwater in 1975 (I was there amongst them) it was done with a corporate MASK called "United Churches".

The Sea Org's ODD COSTUMES invaded downtown Clearwater. Fake navy with no ship, on land!

The Scientologists CHANT at Hubbard photos at events along with applause over and over.

Sea Org execs YELL at lower staff members.

When the "United Churches = Scientology" deception was uncovered the city went ballistic and Scientology was very UNWELCOME.

    They are objecing to THEMSELVES!!

They cannot stop the protests though.

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

Guys, make sure you get a COP in there. From all the vids I've seen I am 100% sure not a single one would ever testify that our protests are anything other than peaceful.

anyway, we're in luck. The major is anti scilon.

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

I see this as a test. If this goes through you will see other cities with scientology orgs trying this.

I will be willing to write to who ever, but clearly Clearwater Anons need to take the reins.

I bet the ACLU will take a look into this.

lol...Anonymous is a detriment to business? They drive away business by putting up the "No Anonymous Served Here" signs.

    What morons.

    SO FAR:
  20. Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

Number 4 on the petition - I can't read the signature, but the business is One Stop Shoppe which is definitely Scilon-owned -- or at least was in 1997 when I was last in Clearwater.

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

They might actually get more business if they'd take those stupid signs out of their windows. Counter with that. "If their business is down, it's because they refuse service to members of Anonymous."

Thank you, i was about to say that myself. Who wants to shop at a place where they blatantly discriminate people because they disagree with a corporate system. Nobody wants to shop where they promote Jim Crow!!! They are violating 14th Amendment and Civil Rights Laws with that crap they do with the signs on their windows.

    OH MAN THIS IS AWESOME.

Let them at it. This is basically validating everything critics say about what would happen if scilons got a majority or any power. They are trying to use numbers and influence in an area to get their way in spite of the law.

You know what l ron used to say, when you convert them all in an area, the org becomes a political institution!

that is absolutely hilarious. I can't wait to see the bad press if the mayor even responds. Political suicide if he gets his name mixed in on any of it.

edit- They didn't even try to offer a shred of evidence backing up these claims. This has cult of scientology written all over it. Nothing but empty attacks and vague references.

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

This is sort of fascinating. On one hand, Anon's got free speech on their side and are clearly obeying the laws of the land. As citizens, we're in the right.

On the other, the businesses have got a point -- the days Anonymous is in town, they surely ARE losing business. But that's got nothing to do with masked Anonymous scaring people off or chasing them down streets while screaming, or overwhelming the city, or behaving badly. It's because Scientology's told everyone to stay clear while Anons are there, so all of the Scilons are hiding out at home all day. And given the number of Scilons in Clearwater, and their refusal to risk coming within earshot of any Anon, that's going to be a huge amount of the population staying home. Definitely enough to affect shopping figures.

But by also putting out signs that ban Anons from the store, the businesses are not getting the custom that IS in town, so they're screwing themselves over all over again.

It'll be interesting to see how it works out. In this case, the unbalanced proportions of Clearwater Scientologists to Clearwater non-Scis means they can drum up a hell of a lot of agreement -- but it's still going to be against the laws of the state and country, which (despite Scientology's best efforts) DO trump local initiatives.

    Re: Anonymous stifles clearwater businesses?

This seems like a puzzling predicament.

    1. Anons don't buy things at the Scino-owned stores and encourage others to do the same because it reduces the amount of money the Co$ is taking in.

    2. Anons do buy things at Scino-owned stores, thus helping out the business and slashing their claims that they're losing business.

Either way, there are pros and cons, and I'm not sure what the best decision would be.
