Cant. I used all the gas in my generator keeping my arse warm & the fridge cold all day.
  2. DeathHamster Member

Move fridge outside, half of problem solved.
  3. AnonLover Member

Cant. The generator on back porch in reach of extension cordage was already in the way, and "keeping arse warm" was the far more important point of that statement.

That's what my older cat says too. Younger one ( Homer) has yet to experience it. Coming soon within a day or so he will have that pleasure. ;-)

Actually, I meant more global suggestions, as in how to win this year's War on Snow. I believe we may need some new strategies.

Unplug fridge, move contents outside into the freezing cold, freezing car, or camping cooler with a bag of solid ice. More power available for keeping arse warm. (Yeah, have to pay attention to the outside temperature in case it warms up.)

If no have warm-ass sleeping bag, get one of these for emergencies:
    http://www.summithut.com/products/thermo-lite-2-bivy-sack/?avad=3057_d227d7d9
(Use the ventilation openings or condensation will be a soggy problem in the morning.)

Make hot soup. I have a GSI Soloist cookset with pot, bowl, lid, foon, a Optimus Crux jet, small iso-propane tank, a couple packets of soup, oatmeal, tea and sugar.

If things were almost serious, why, I'd bring up the two storage tubs from the basement with my camping/cooking gear. (A Coleman single burner stove, with enough naphtha for a couple weeks of serious cooking, and a wok.)

It's also important to establish Resistance movements in case some places are overrun.

Its Sunday afternoon, lovely warm sun here on the equator. Little cooler than usual due to monsoon season, only about 85º F at the moment.

Well, you're obviously doing something right. Could someone authorize me a two-week transfer there to observe their methods of Snolon fighting?

    Or ScnSNO!

I think we have to face facts: All of these shady individuals are involved in a shadowy, secretive Snoluminati that has evidently infiltrated this website and succeeded in overturning last year's victory.

On a positive note, last night's sound and fury signified basically nothing. It's melting.

    Coffee Can Candle Warmer

1-approx 920 gr Coffee can, metal only, with ~ 6-8 holes punched along sides at bottom, remove paper coffee label
3-4 tealight candles, scent-free (stock extra, lots extra)
alum. foil heavy duty, enough to cover open top, punch some holes in it

Light tealight candles, put inside coffee can, cover open can top with holey foil
Place coffee can wherever you need a heat source, eg inside bathroom vanity, or several inside bathroom or other small room with door closed, several beside your water heater

CHECK OFTEN! Replace candles as needed.

DO NOT LET ANY COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL TOUCH, or get close to COFFEE CAN. eg remove linens and extra toilet paper etc. from vanity

DON'T YOU TOUCH COFFEE CAN OTHER THAN AT THE VERY BOTTOM

Will provide sufficient heat to keep pipes, and humans, from freezing even at well below 0.

Storm of 'Epic Magnitude' Slams Alaska

November 9, 2011: This image provided by the NOAA-19 satellite's AVHRR sensor, shows the storm bearing down on Alaska in this infrared imagery.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A powerful Bering Sea storm hit western Alaska early Wednesday with high winds and surging seas, the National Weather Service said.

"We do have some reports of buildings losing roofs in the Nome area," said meteorologist Scott Berg at the Fairbanks office. "Also water at the base of buildings in Nome."

Some homes close to ocean have been evacuated, but there are no reports of injuries, he said.
A storm surge could bring more severe flooding later Wednesday in the Nome area, Berg said.

Blizzard conditions prevailed overnight in quite a few places with sustained winds of 60 mph and gusts to 80 mph.

Berg said big low-pressure systems hit Alaska often, but this one is different because of the track it took and because ice hasn't formed yet to protect the shore.
