Eleven Dallas law enforcement officers were shot, three fatally, by what is believed to be two snipers who opened fire during a demonstration downtown over recent police shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana, the Dallas police chief said.
The snipers fired from an elevated positions on police officers minutes before 9 p.m., Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters.
"We believe that these suspects were positioning themselves in a way to triangulate on these officers from two different perches in garages in the downtown area, and planned to injure and kill as many law enforcement officers as they could," he said. Some were shot in the back.
Three of the 11 officers died, two are in surgery and three are in critical condition, Brown said."

'3 people in custody'
Police Chief David Brown says three people are in custody over the Dallas shootings. A fourth person is exchanging gunfire with officers.
"The suspect that we are negotiating with that has exchanged gunfire with us over the last 45 minutes has told our negotiators that the end is coming, and he is going to hurt and kill more of us, meaning law enforcement. And that there are bombs all over the place in this garage and in downtown.
"So we are being very careful in our tactics so we don't injure our citizens in Dallas as we negotiate further."
The Dallas Twitter feed was posting respectful pictures of protesters before the sniper fire.
It's horrible, the Dallas police were doing it right and the protest was peaceful.

Mark Hughes, man Dallas PD called shooting suspect, speaks to media
Published by Matthew Keys on July 7, 2016
July 7, 2016: Mark Hughes speaks to the media after the Dallas Police Department erroneously announced him as a suspect involved in the fatal shooting of several officers during a protest on Thursday.
Well... not yet knowing anything about this conspiracy to kill cops other than that it happened and some cops were indeed killed, what comes to mind is:
* If the purpose was to bring some kind of vigilante accountability to the police in general, this is doinitrong. The effect will presumably be to rally support behind police and bring further bleating calls for more impingements on individual freedoms, as well as to vilify gun owners and those who oppose police misconduct. BOOOO!
* That notwithstanding, police can't expect to just keep killing innocent people and have there be no consequences. While I disagree with this shooting spree, it's not entirely surprising that some people were angry enough to do it. Where there is no effective accountability within the system (which is rather often), natural law dictates that there must be some imposed from outside the system. What that means is that this shooting spree also, in a way, could be seen as a repudiation of all of us, in that we have not upheld our responsibility to properly hold blue-clad people accountable for their crimes.
I'm assuming that the motive of the shooters was the obvious one: that they were angry over police killing innocent people. That's only an assumption at this point.
My tinfoil had it as, what better way to bring on a race war and ensure a Trump presidency than to target cops at a peaceful BLM protest. But thats just my tinfoil and YMMV.

No idea how trustworthy this is, but just dropping it here because of this bit.
Based on some searching I did, there isn't much online about the author. That article is the only one he's written for that site. On Facebook there are several mentions of people with the same name, but everything I saw going back to 2012 was about other people. Google News searches for that name only turn up mentions of different people.
Another threat and the police have the area around police headquarters locked down. They have closed public transportation, there are evacuations and the press can't show any pictures of the area.
